Bulls Fall to Canisius, 3-1

The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team only had one game this week as they took on cross-town rival Canisius on Sunday afternoon. The Bulls fell to the Griffs, 3-1, as senior Sara Hilliard scored her first career goal, and the Bulls’ only goal of the game off a long pass from freshman Natasha Arana (Island Park, NY/West Hempstead) at the 82:33 mark to put the Bulls on the board.

Canisius took an early lead, scoring the first goal of the game in the 16th minute of play. The Griffs snuck another one by UB goalkeeper Amy Coron less than 10 minutes later to put the Griffs up by two. The Bulls had their chances to score, as Julie Dale and Stephanie Velez each had two shots in the first half.

In the 71st minute of play, the Buffalo defense deflected the ball into their own goal to give Canisius the 3-0 lead, but Hilliard put the Bulls on the board in the 82nd minute. The Bulls capitalized on a Canisius foul, as Arana sent the ball to Hilliard on a long free kick pass and Hilliard headed it to the back of the net for the score. The Bulls could not score again, as Coron ended the game with seven saves in net.
