Lindsay Szafranski

BUFFALO, NY - Senior Lindsay Szafranski (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) notched her first career goal and added an assist as the University at Buffalo women's soccer team took out Mid-American conference foe Central Michigan, 3-0, at RAC Field on Sunday.

The win helps the Bulls (3-5 overall, 2-1 MAC) rebound from a 3-1 loss to Eastern Michigan on Friday night and also serves as a momentum-boost after the Chippewas (3-4-1 overall, 1-1-1 MAC) had beaten defending conference champ Kent State, 4-0, on Friday.

Szafranski, who had seen action in 34 career games, notched her first career goal in the 21st minute when she rebounded a shot off the Central Michigan goalkeeper and fired a shot into the center of the net. Senior Jenny Dannecker (East Amherst, NY/Holy Angels Academy) assisted on the play for her team-high third of the year.

The Bulls scored again four minutes later, as freshman Kathleen Fage (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) got a dish on the right side from Szafranski and deposited it in the left corner of the goal.

Buffalo's final goal came three minutes into the second half, as junior Natalia Crofut (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois) put a shot in the left corner from 10 yards out. Freshman Heidi Griffiths (Clarence, NY/Clarence) earned her first career point on the play and sophomore Jessica Roesch (Centennial, CO/Grandview) also assisted on the goal.

Central Michigan's best chance to score came in the 84th minute as Buffalo senior goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) came out of the net to make a play on the ball, but Laura Gaesser dribbled through the keeper. Senior Brenna McJury (Brockport, NY/Brockport) made a goal-saving play, forcing enough pressure to get Gaesser's shot to drift left.

Calvert stopped eight shots for the Bulls and Anne Decker made four saves for the Chippewas.

The Bulls start a three-week, six-game road trip on Friday, as they travel to Ball State for a 4:00 pm MAC game.
