Women's Soccer Tops Akron, 6-1

Nicole Olszewski Records Seven Points To Lead The Bulls

BUFFALO, NY - Sophomore Nicole Olszewski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) scored two goals and had three assists to lead the University at Buffalo to a 6-1 victory over the University of Akron in women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulls improved to 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference and 3-3 overall. Akron dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the MAC.

Just 1:47 after the opening whistle, Olszewski set up senior Paula Sinclair (Hamilton, Ontario/Barton Secondary) for her second goal of the season. Olszewski then recorded her second assist of the day at the 14:34 mark when freshman Brenna McJury (Brockport, NY/Brockport) also tallied her first of the season. Akron cut the deficit in half, banking a ball in off a UB defender before Olszewski scored a goal of her own in the 32nd minute. The score would hold until the second half when junior Andrea Sullivan (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) teamed up with Olszewski 1:41 into the half. However, Olszewski wasn't done yet as she finished her career-day with her fifth goal of the season at the 49:17 mark. Freshman Annie Malayny (Buffalo, NY/Villa Maria Academy) closed out the scoring on a goal with :01 left on the clock off a pass from freshman Arielle Korczykowski (Derby, NY/Lake Shore).

Junior Emily Cox (Fairport, NY/Fairport) started the game in goal for the Bulls, recording four saves before giving way to freshman Jessica Dunn (Webster, NY/Webster) who played the final 18:06.

Olszewski's seven points on the day were the sixth-highest single-game total in Bulls' history. The Western New York native now has 15 points in six games this season (five goals and five assists).

The Bulls will travel to Toledo (Friday, September 21) and Bowling Green (Sunday, September 23) for two pivotal conference games this weekend.
