Eastern Michigan's Early Goals Take Out Women's Soccer

Three first half goals lift Eagles to a 3-1 win over Bulls

BUFFALO, NY - Two goals from Kai Harris in the first 25 minutes helped Eastern Michigan University to a 3-1 win at the University at Buffalo in a Mid-American Conference matchup on Friday night.

Harris' first goal came just 3:53 into the match, as Libby Nierman and Jessica Hupe assisted on the play. Harris finished the play with a shot from 20 yards out to the upper center of the goal after a cross from Hupe.

Harris helped the Eagles (4-1-2 overall, 1-0-1 MAC) to a 2-0 lead 20 minutes later when Kate Nierman and Sara Schiffbauer assisted on Harris' shot that blazed into the lower right corner of the goal.

The Bulls (2-5 overall, 1-1 MAC) answered back in the 31st minute when senior Jenny Dannecker (East Amherst, NY/Holy Angels Academy) crossed a ball to senior Natalia Crofut (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois). Crofut beat a defender and hoisted the ball into the lower right corner of the goal.

Eastern Michigan didn't allow the goal to deter it, though, as it scored it's final goal just 19 seconds after Crofut had closed the gap to one goal. Kate Nierman added her second assist of the game with a dish out front to Cyndi Mullins. Mullins, in front of the defense, lofted a shot to the upper left corner of the goal from 25 yards out.

Buffalo did have chances throughout the game as shots from senior defender Brenna McJury (Brockport, NY/Brockport) and freshman forward Kathleen Fage (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) hit the crossbar.

The Bulls were outshot 18-16, and held a 14-7 advantage in fouls. The defense did hold EMU's top scorer, Hupe, without a shot in the contest.

Senior Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) stopped eight shots for the Bulls and Nikki Allen stopped six shots for the Eagles.

The Bulls host Central Michigan on Sunday at 1:00 pm in another MAC game at RAC Field. Last year, the Chippewas beat the Bulls, 3-0.
