Saving the Day

Freshman defender Nikki Wilson (El Paso, TX/Franklin) made the biggest save in Friday's 2-1 win against Canisius, as she kicked away a Canisius shot inches from the goal line destined to tie the score with less than 10 seconds left.

Wilson has started five games as a freshman and appeared in all six contents, securing a spot on the defensive line.

Tal's Tallies

Senior Natalia Crofut (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois) scored goals in both games this weekend, including the gamewinner in Friday's 2-1 win against crosstown rival Canisius. Crofut is three points away from becoming the first UB player since Paula Listrani ('97-'00) to score 10 points in all four of her seasons. She is currently eighth in both career points (52) and goals (21).

Welcome to Buffalo

Sophomore Kelley Vander Mallie (Penfield, NY/Penfield), a transfer from Pittsburgh, started her first career game on Friday against Canisius and also scored her first career point in the 2-1 win, assisting on the first goal. Vander Mallie appeared in seven games at Pittsburgh in 2004 before transferring.

Record-Saver

Senior Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) made 13 saves in two games this weekend, bringing her career total to 273 saves. She is two saves shy of taking fourth place in Mid-American Conference history from Ball State's Megan Swafford (2000-03) and is 27 shy of becoming just the third goaltender in conference history to reach 300 saves.

Defensive Experience

With MAC All-Freshman Team performer Courtney MacVie (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) and three-year starter Pam Schneck (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) unavailable early in the season, Buffalo has looked to veteran midfielders to fill the defensive gap. Junior Jessica Roesch (Centennial, CO/Grandview) has moved into MacVie's central back position and senior Lindsay Szafranski (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) has also moved into the backfield.

Clipping the Griffins' Wings

With Friday's 2-1 win against Route 5 rival Canisius, Buffalo has beaten the rival 13 times in the past 15 meetings, dating back to 1991 when the teams didn't face each other. Canisius last won in 2003, pulling out a 2-1 win at Demske Sports Complex.
