Bulls Split Weekend Matches

The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team split its weekend games at the Niagara Fall Classic, earning its first win of the 2007 season, a 3-1 victory over Binghamton and falling to the American University Eagles, 3-0.

McCalla, Mac Vie Earn All-Tourney Honors

Senior defender Courtney Mac Vie (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) and junior midfielder Brooke McCalla (Pickering, ON/Dunbarton) were both recognized for their efforts over the weekend, as both were named to the All-Tournament team at the Niagara Fall Classic.

Buffalo’s 3-1 win over Binghamton on Friday was a total team effort, as four different players contributed points in the contest. Senior Ashley Turner (Olean, NY/Olean) scored her first goal of the season, while McCalla added two goals. Junior Andrea Vescio (Niagara Falls, ON/A.N. Myer) assisted on all three goals, while senior Samantha Roth (Rochester, NY/Arcadia) teamed with Vescio to earn her first career assist. Roth’s assist was also her first career point.

Coron Current MAC Leader In Saves

Through Buffalo’s first four games of 2007, junior goalkeeper Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/Victor) has already amassed 32 saves, putting her well on pace to break her 2006 total of 101. Coron’s 32 saves currently leads the MAC, with the next closest goalkeeper grabbing just 19 saves.

The Bulls are set to host the UB Classic, beginning on Friday, Sept. 14. The four-team tournament will be played at UB Stadium and will feature Maine, St. John’s and Vermont, in addition to Buffalo. On Friday, St. John’s will face Vermont at 4:00 pm followed by UB vs. Maine at 7:00 pm. The second day of the tournament, Sunday, Sept. 16, will include match-ups between St. John’s and Maine, set for 10:30 am followed by UB vs. Vermont at 12:30 pm.
