Bulls Fall to Purdue

UB loses to the Boilermakers in tournament final

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN - The UB women's soccer team fell to Purdue, 4-0, in the finals of the Purdue Boilermaker Challenge Cup on Sunday. It was the first loss of the season for the Bulls who are now 0-1-3 on the 2002 campaign.

Purdue (3-1-0) struck early and often in the game, scoring four first-half goals. The Boilermakers got tallies from Chrissy Creamer (23:09), Courtney Coppedge (28:37), Annette Kent (31:45) and Jennie Moppert (42:54). Purdue outshot the Bulls 29-4.

The game was delayed 45 minutes in the second half due to lightning in the area.

Despite allowing four goals, goalkeeper Emily Cox (Fairport, NY/Fairport) made a season-high 10 saves.

The Bulls advanced to finals of the tournament after tying Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 1-1, on Friday night. UB won in a shoot out to earn the right to play Purdue. The Bulls' lone goal in regulation was scored by Devon Russell (Averill Park, NY/Academy of the Holy Names). Goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) made seven saves and allowed one goal.

Russell, Robin Aparo (Victor, NY/Victor Central) and Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) were named to the all-tournament team.
