Syracuse Defeats UB 2-0

Women's Soccer Falls for the First Time This Season

SYRACUSE, NY — The University at Buffalo women's soccer team lost for the first time this season, falling 2-0 to Syracuse at the Syracuse Orange Classic. The loss breaks the Bulls three-game winning streak to open the season.

The Orangewomen scored a goal in each half, both by freshman Nina Scalzo. Syracuse got the first goal from Scalzo at the 34:58 mark, giving the Orangewomen a 1-0 lead at halftime. The second half was a defensive battle, as each team could only get off a combined seven shots in the second half. Syracuse sealed the victory when Scalzo connected one of those shots at the 88:10 mark , giving Syracuse a 2-0 lead.

It was an even game as Syracuse outshot the Bulls 10-8. Goalkeeper Jaime Adams (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) recorded five saves in the game and allowed her first two goals of the season. Nicole Olszewski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) led the UB offensive attack with four of Buffalo's eight shots on goal.

The Bulls (3-1) will be in action again on Sunday when they face Rutgers in the second round of the Syracuse Orange Classic. Game time is scheduled for 12 noon.
