Women’s Soccer Beats Binghamton, 3-1

Brooke McCalla scores two goals, Andrea Vescio adds two assists

LEWISTON, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team scored its first win of the season Friday afternoon, grabbing a 3-1 victory over the Binghamton Bearcats at the Niagara University Fall Classic in Lewiston, NY.

Senior Ashley Turner (Olean, NY/Olean) got the Bulls on the board just over a minute into the game when she poked a pass from junior Andrea Vescio (Niagara Falls, ON/A.N. Myer) past Binghamton goalkeeper Erin Iman. The goal was Turner’s first goal of 2007.

The Bearcats pressured the Bulls as Binghamton evened the score at the 11:26 mark on an unassisted goal from Danielle White but the Bulls answered, and were able to mount an offensive attack of their own.

With about 13 minutes left in the first half, junior Brooke McCalla (Pickering, ON/Dunbarton) received a pass from Vescio and slotted it into the net to place Buffalo ahead, 2-1. Buffalo took the lead into halftime and further extended its lead in the second half, as McCalla tallied her second goal of the game on a quick unassisted goal from inside the box.

The Bulls will play their second game of the Niagara University Fall Classic on Sunday in a game against American University. Game time is 11:00 am in Lewiston.
