Women's Soccer Weekly ReleaseClick here for a PDF of the weekly release Long Time Coming The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team added a duo of consecutive shutout victories last week, beginning with a 2-0 win over St. Bonaventure at home on Sunday, August 27 followed by a 2-0 triumph on the road over Vermont on Friday, Sept. 1. The last time the Bulls posted two sequential shutout wins was during the 2004 season when Buffalo downed Canisius, 4-0 on Sept. 10 and followed by taking a 2-0 win over Akron on Sept. 12. Nifty In Net UB redshirt freshman goalkeeper Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/ Victor) commenced a sensational 2006 campaign for the Bulls last week, as she recorded 20 saves through the first four games of the season, saving .741 percent of the shots she faced between the pipes for the Bulls. Leader Of The Pack Buffalo junior forward Heidi Griffiths (Clarence, NY/ Clarence) has emerged as a dominant offensive threat for the Bulls thus far in 2006. While being responsible for scoring three of the Bulls’ five goals this season, Griffiths has amassed a team-high seven points. Fabulous Frosh After losing five starting players to graduation following the 2005 season, Buffalo head coach Jean-A. Tassy has relied on a handful of talented newcomers to step up and fill the roles left vacant, including freshman Caitlin Higgins (Lancaster, PA/ Penn Manor) who has started all four of the Bulls’ games this season at midfield. In addition to Higgins, fellow frosh Julie Dale (Cary, NC/ Raleigh Charter), Cheyra Bell (Warwick, Bermuda/ Bermuda Institute), Jennifer Mihok (Schenectady, NY/ Guilderland), Ashley Mewhorter (Clifton Park, NY/ Shenendehowa), Rachael Cavosie (Waterford, NY/ Catholic Central) and Jenny Fragner (North Woodmere, NY/ Lawrence) have all tallied a significant amount of playing time so far this season. UB Next The Bulls will embark on their furthest road trip of the season when they head to the West Coast to participate in the UC Irvine Nike Invitational, taking on UC-Riverside and UC-Irvine. UB’s first game is on Friday, Sept. 8 against UC-Riverside while the second game is set for Sunday, Sept. 10 against host school UC-Irvine. The Anteaters are led by first-year head coach and former US National Team head coach from 2000-2005, April Heinrichs.
