Bulls Roll Past Niagara

UB Comes from Behind Early for 4-1 Win

Niagara Falls, NY - The University at Buffalo women's soccer team improved to 3-0-0 on the season with 4-1 victory at Niagara University on Monday afternoon.

The Purple Eagles got on the board first with a goal just five minutes into the game. That lead was the first by an opponent over UB all season, but it would not last long, as the Bulls would come through and tie it up just 12 minutes later. Paula Listrani (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) scored her third goal in as many games this year, converting on a penalty kick at the 17:40 mark to tie the game. Buffalo would take the lead before the end of the first half as Nicole Olszewski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) scored her first career goal on an assist from Kelly Damon (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) at the 25:45 mark.

UB would expand on that lead late in the second half. Emily Russell (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) scored a goal off an assist from sister Devon Russell (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) at the 86:13 mark to make it 3-1. Three minutes later, Devon Russell got into the scoring frenzy off an assist from Olszewski at the 89:17 mark for the 4-1 final score.

Sophomore Emily Cox (Fairport, NY/Fairport) recorded five saves at goalie for UB, and gave up the one Niagara goal. The Bulls again outshot their opponent for the third straight game, recording 22 shots to the Purple Eagles 10 shots.

The Bulls (3-0-0) will next be in action this coming weekend when they travel to play at the Syracuse Orange Classic. UB will battle Syracuse on Friday, September 8, at 7:30 pm, and then face Rutgers on Sunday, September 10, at 12 noon.
