TUSCON, AZ - Fairleigh Dickinson University scored two goals in two minutes in the second half to overtake the University at Buffalo, 3-1, in the opening round of the Arizona Invitational.

With the game tied at one in the 53rd minute, Tonya Hipsman scored an unassisted goal and Julia Ralph followed with another unassisted tally 82 seconds later to give the Knights (1-2 overall) an insurance goal.

That was enough for Andrea Maston, who made nine saves in goal for the Knights, eight coming in the first half.

Buffalo did get its first goal of the season as senior midfielder Brenna McJury (Brockport, NY/ Brockport) dished a corner kick to senior forward Jenny Dannecker (East Amherst, NY/Holy Angels Academy), who scored to give the Bulls (0-3 overall) a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute.

The Knights answered quickly, as Marguerite Ferrell scored on a feed from Chelsea Adams in the 36th minute.

Sophomore Jennifer Thompson (Chagrin Falls, OH/Chagrin Falls) started her first game of the year for the Bulls in goal. She made nine saves, including six in a first half in which Fairleigh Dickinson took 12 shots.

Buffalo used a season-high 19 players in the Arizona heat, with the temperature rising near 90 degrees.

The Bulls return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. against UC Irvine in the wrapup game of the Arizona Invitational in Tuscon, AZ.
