Women's Soccer Falls To SyracuseBUFFALO, NY The University at Buffalo women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Syracuse on Monday afternoon at RAC Field. Syracuse (2-0) sophomore Nina Scalzo was the thorn in the side for the Bulls as she finished with two goals and an assist, handing the Bulls (1-1) their first loss of the season. Scalzo gave the Orangewomen a two-goal lead early into the game when she scored unassisted goals at the 1:16 and 4:13 marks. The Bulls settled down but could never fully recover as Natalie Galas added a goal in the 34th minute on a feed from Megan Huez and Candy Reich hooked up with Scalzo with 16:56 left in the game to close out the scoring. Syracuse outshot the Bulls, 18-6, and held a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks. Senior Emily Cox (Fairport, NY/Fairport) played the entire game in goal for Buffalo, recording two saves. Shannon Myers made five saves between the pipes for Syracuse. The loss marks the first time since the 1997 season that the Bulls haven't started with at least three wins. Last year, Buffalo began the season 3-0 and finished with an overall record of 14-6-1. The Bulls will return to action on Friday, September 7, when they travel to Fairfield for a 7 p.m. start followed by a meeting at Boston University on Sunday, September 9, at Noon. |
