BROOKLYN, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team dropped their second game of the weekend this afternoon, falling to Long Island, 1-0, in a double-overtime thriller at LIU Field. The game was scoreless for the first 100 minutes, but LIU put one past UB goalkeeper Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/Victor) just 57 second into the second overtime to clinch the Blackbird win.

The Blackbirds outshot the Bulls, 12-10, but the shots on goal were even, with both teams having five. Buffalo’s first scoring opportunity came just three minutes into the match with a shot by Melissa Klein (North Bellmore, NY/Mepham). Martina Pettenuzzo (Arlington Heights, IL/Prospect) had two chances in the first half, but was unable to get by the Blackbird defense. Lindsey Bailey (Burlington, Ontario/Assumption) and Natasha Arana (Island Park, NY/West Hempstead) also had scoring chances in the first half with Buffalo outshooting LIU, 6-2. Freshmen Katie Kerr (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) and Taylor Thompson (Waterloo, Ontario/Sir John A. MacDonald) each added a shot on goal for Buffalo. Bailey and Aubrey Stahl (Loveland, CO/Mountain View) each finished the weekend with a team high four shots, but the Bulls have yet to see a goal in their first three games of the season.
