Women's Soccer ties Syracuse, 2-2SYRACUSE, NY - The Buffalo women's soccer team tied Syracuse, 2-2, in the opening game of the 2002 campaign played at the Syracuse Orange Classic Tournament on Friday night. The Bulls got on the board first when Erin McGarry (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) took a pass from Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY/Cicreo-North Syracuse) and scored in the 31st minute. The Orangewomen quickly answered back when Nina Scalzo scored seven minutes later. UB pulled ahead once again thanks to a Robin Aparo (Victor, NY/Victor Central) goal at the 47:55 mark. Jenny Dannecker (East Amherst, NY/Holy Angels Academy) was credited with the assist on the play. However, the Bulls were unable to sustain the lead as Syracuse midfielder Stephanie Sybert scored in the 81st minute to tie the game, 2-2. The two teams battled through 20 minutes of a scoreless overtime. Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams), playing in her first collegiate game, made four saves in her debut. Shannon Myers stopped five shots for the Orangewomen. The Bulls are now 0-0-1 on the young season. They will face Colgate on Sunday in the
final game of the tournament. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. |
