BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team got their 2008 season off to a winning start by defeating local rival Niagara, 1-0. The goal came early in the contest when Lindsey Bailey (Burlington, Ontario/Assumption) scored in the 12th minute of the match.

Bailey notched the only goal of the game off an assist from freshman Aubrey Stahl (Loveland, CO/Mountain View) to start off the year on the right foot. The teams kept the contest close, but Niagara came up short, despite outshooting the Bulls 9-8. Bailey and Stahl combined for six of the eight UB shots, with Bailey recording a game-high, four shots, including three on net.

UB goalkeeper Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/Victor) finished with her first shutout of the season and ninth of her career, saving nine shots between the posts.

The Bulls will travel to Fort Myers, Florida to take on Florida Gulf Coast University in another non-conference game on Friday, August 29 at 7:00 pm.
