UB Women's Soccer Announces Annual Team AwardsBUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's soccer team announced its 2000 team awards at UB's annual Athletic Awards Banquet, held at Samuel's Grande Manor on Tuesday, May 1. Senior Linnaea DiNallo (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was named Most Valuable Player, and freshman Erin McGarry (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) earned Top Newcomer honors. Senior Cherie Rogers (Rochester, NY/Greece- Athena) was named Most Improved Player, while senior Paula Listrani (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) received the team's Coach's Award. Listrani was also named UB's Female Athlete of the Year, and the women's soccer team received the Athletic Director's Team Award. DiNallo earned All-MAC first-team honors for the second year in a row this past season after leading the Bulls' defense that finished the year with a team goals against average of 0.97 and nine shutouts. DiNallo helped the Bulls post 17 shutouts over the past two seasons, and she was named a Second Team Region I All-American in each of those two years. McGarry earned a starting spot on the Bulls' roster in her freshman campaign, starting all 21 games and playing an important part in the Bulls' success. McGarry solidified the Bulls' play in the midfield, and she created numerous offensive opportunities, putting six shots on net. Rogers has also been an integral part of the Bulls' defensive efforts throughout her four-year career. She earned All-MAC second- team honors this past season while starting all 21 games for the Bulls and marking many of their opponents' top scoring threats. Rogers scored her second career goal against Toledo on October 22, giving her eight career points. Listrani finished her four-year career at UB as the school's all-time leader in career goals with 46, career assists with 24 and career points with 116. She led the Bulls in scoring in each of the last three seasons and this past season, she set single-season records for assists with 11 and for points with 39. Listrani played in every game during her four-year career, a total of 76, and she started 73 of those games. She is a three-time All-MAC first-team selection and a three-time Region I All-American, earning third-team honors as a sophomore, first-team honors as a junior and second-team honors as a senior. The women's soccer team received the Athletic Director's Team Award after winning the first-ever MAC regular season championship by a Buffalo team. The Bulls finished the 2000 season with an 8-2-1 conference record and a 14-6-1 overall record. In addition, head coach Jean-A. Tassy became the first Buffalo coach to earn MAC Coach of the Year honors. |
