BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo Women’s Soccer Program added two more players to their 2008 recruiting class, first-year head coach Michael Thomas announced. Sarah Christensen (Elma, NY/Iroquois) and Angela Nicholas (Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda) are two local products who have decided to stay home and compete for the Bulls this upcoming year.

“We are very excited to get a couple of local players in our first recruiting class,” said Thomas. “These two players are reflective of the progress the city of Buffalo has made in recent years in regards to developing quality soccer players.”

Christensen enjoyed an impressive prep career at Iroquois High School, where she was named first-team All-Western New York and fifth-team All-New York in her senior year. She was a three-time All-ECIC First Team selection and was a three-time offensive MVP. Her success on the field did not stop with her high school. Her Buffalo United Club soccer team won the Western Appalachian Premier Soccer League Championship, the Upstate Premier League Championship, as well as the Western New York State Cup Championship. In addition to all of those accomplishments, she was a three-time member of the Western New York Olympic Development team.

"Sarah is a local product out of the Buffalo United Soccer Club system,” said Thomas. “She has been well coached and is very comfortable on the ball. She has seen a high level of soccer and we hope she can come on and compete to play right away”

Nicholas is another product of the Buffalo United Soccer Club system. She attended Tonawanda High School where she was a four-year varsity contributor and was named the Dan Durck Tournament MVP and was also named to the ECIC First Team. She competes for Coach Kelly Gillow with the Buffalo United Soccer Club.

"We were extremely happy to get a player of Angela’s character and quality to come join the team,” said Thomas. “She is a player that the coaches in Buffalo are all aware of and we look forward to her continuing her success at the collegiate level.”

Christensen and Nicholas bring UB’s freshman class for 2008 to five as they join Deanna Rowe (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford), Angelina Claughton (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop McNally) and Aubrey Stahl (Loveland, CO/Mountain View), who chose Buffalo earlier this year.
