BUFFALO, NY - First-year women’s soccer coach Michael Thomas has announced the addition of two players for the 2008 season. Angelina Claughton (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop McNally) and Deanna Rowe (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) have each signed National Letters of Intent to play at the University at Buffalo.

“I am very pleased with the addition of these two outstanding student-athletes,” said Thomas. “I am very excited to begin my first season as head coach here at Buffalo and bringing in two young women of this caliber just adds to my excitement.”

Claughton joins the Bulls from Bishop McNally High School where she capped off an illustrious, high school and club career. She was named the high school player of the year and Soccer- MVP in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In addition to her high school exploits she played with the Calgary Select club team, and was a member of the Canadian Provincial team and part of the Canadian National Training center.

“Angelina is comfortable on the ball and looks to go at people one versus one.,” said Thomas. “She has been exposed to soccer at a high level and we believe she can come in and compete right away.”

Rowe comes to Buffalo from Pennsylvania where she finishes one of the most distinguished prep careers in Penn-Trafford high school history. During her time at Penn-Trafford Deanna was named offensive MVP and received the coaches’ choice award in addition to being selected all-conference and all-section for all four years of her playing career, while helping them to a state championship. Her club experience was equally as successful as she helped her IFC Blast team to become a 2007 state finalist and competed for the Pennsylvania West Olympic Development Team for the past four years.

“Deanna is a tenacious attacker who is willing to battle for 50/50 balls, but is still capable of attacking with skill.,” said Thomas. “She has had success at every step along the way and we look for her to come in and make an immediate impact.”

The Bulls finished the 2007 campaign with a 7-10-2 record and a 4-6-1 mark in Mid-American Conference play.
