UB Women's Soccer Signs Four PlayersBUFFALO, NY - Four players have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University at Buffalo and participate on the women's soccer team, according to head coach Jean-A. Tassy. Kristin Lawson (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute), Jessica Roesch (Centennial, CO/Grandview), Michele Roth (Akron, NY/Akron Central) and Jennifer Thompson (Chagrin Falls, OH/Chagrin) will join the Bulls starting in the 2003 season. Lawson is a 5-9 midfielder/defender who, in addition to playing for Aquinas Institute, also played for the Rhinos Elite club team. "Kristin will bring to us her leadership, her technical creativity and her tactical vision at the midfield and defensive positions," Tassy said. "She is a competitor who plays to win and her passion for the game is usually displayed in her competitive spirit." Lawson plans to major in physical therapy/exercise science. Roesch is a 5-9 midfielder/attacker from Centennial, CO. Tassy feels that she brings a physical presence and speed to the team. "She is intelligent and loves to go at opponents with her excellent 1-v-1 skills," Tassy said. "She is creative and skillful and her talent will help increase our team speed." Also a member of the Colorado Storm club team, Roesch plans to major in nursing at UB. Roth is a 5-7 attacker from Akron, NY, whom Tassy describes as a scrappy player who gets the job done in the box. "She is physical and loves to score," Tassy said. "Her powerful shots, with both legs, will add another dimension to our attack." Roth, a product of the UB Women's Soccer Camp, plans to major in business. She is also a member of the Buffalo/Niagara Premier club team. Thompson is a 5-10 goalkeeper from Chagrin Falls, OH. Tassy believes that she will bring a tremendous presence at the goalkeeper position. "Her ability to intimidate the opponent, her verbal leadership in organizing her defense and her strong distribution will be vital to our counter attack," Tassy said. Also a member of the International Soccer Club, Thompson plans to major in either international business or psychology. "We are extremely excited about having these four student-athletes join our program,"
Tassy said. |
