Student-athletes must obtain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher and earn a letter for the current season to be eligible for the honor roll. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible as student-athletes must have attended that institution for an entire year.

Buffalo finished the 2001 season with a 9-9 overall mark and a 6-2 MAC record. The Bulls made their fourth straight appearance in the Mid-American Conference Tournament but were eliminated prematurely with a 7-0 loss at Miami on November 6.
