UB Soccer Players Receive Conference Academic HonorsBUFFALO, NY - The University of Buffalo men and women's soccer programs were both honored for off-the-field accomplishments by the Mid-American Conference. The student-athletes were recognized not only for their contributions to the team on the field, but for outstanding performance in the classroom as well. To qualify, student-athletes must have a cummulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater. The UB women's team had two members named to the academic first-team all-conference and the men's team had one. Each had two players receive honorable mention as well. Senior Julie Listrani (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) was selected to the Academic First-Team All-Conference. A chemistry major, Julie was the second leading scorer for the Bulls with 10 points on three goals and a team-best four assists. Sister Paula Listrani (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) was named to the All-Conference First-Team as UB's leading scorer and one of the top scorers in the conference. Paula, a sophomore at UB, finished the season with 13 goals and three assists for 29 points on the season. Her goals scored was the third highest total in UB history. Sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Adams (Rochester, NY/ Greece-Arcadia) was named as an academic honorable mention selection. Adams, a communications major, allowed just 19 goals in 17 games this season, a goals against average of 1.05. She also recorded five shutouts for the year. Senior Tracey Britton (Brockport, NY/Brockport) was also named as an honorable mention selection. Britton, a psychology and health and human services major, finished the year with three goals and three assists for a total of nine points. On the men's team, senior Brian Cruickshank (Babylon, NY/ St. John the Baptist) was named to the MAC Academic First-Team All-Conference. Cruickshank, a physical therapy major, was a leading defender and midfielder for the Bulls, scoring one goal and one assist on the year. Two other members of the Bulls team received honorable mention recognition as well. Sophomore Brian McCallion (Ballston Spa, NY/Shenendehowa) was one of the top scorers for UB this season. McCallion, a business major, finished second on the team in goals scored with six and added six assists as well for a total of 18 points on the season. Sophomore Jarek Radzinski (Jnowroclaw, Poland/Bishop Marroco) was also named as an honorable mention selection. Radzinski, a computer science major, was one of the stable forces on the Bulls defense that recorded seven shutouts on the year. |
