Lindsey Bailey Earns Slot on MAC All-Freshman Team

Midfielder proved to be a play-making force during her rookie campaign

CLEVELAND, OH – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2007 women’s soccer All-MAC teams, as well as its Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year on Thursday, as voted by the league’s head coaches.

UB freshman midfielder Lindsey Bailey (Burlington, ON/Assumption) earned a slot on the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team.

This was the third time in the last four years that a UB women’s soccer player has earned a spot on the team, as Bailey joins teammates Courtney MacVie (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) and Brooke McCalla (Pickering, ON/Dunbarton) who were also named to the team in 2004 and 2005, respectively.

In her rookie campaign, Bailey contributed to UB’s overall team speed and finished tied for fourth on the team in points (6), fourth on the team in scoring (2 goals) and fourth on the team in assists (2). Bailey also had one game-winning goal to help the Bulls score a 1-0 victory over Central Michigan on Oct. 21. a In addition, Bailey finished the season with 22 shots, 16 on goal to finish with a shot on goal percentage of .727, the highest among players who played in over half of the team’s games.

Toledo’s Molly Cornwell became the first-ever Rocket to take home Player of the Year honors in the MAC after leading the Conference in points (37), goals (14) and assists (9). Ball State head coach Michelle Salmon was named MAC Coach of the Year for the second year in a row after leading the Cardinals to two consecutive MAC titles. Miami’s Sara Lund was selected as MAC Freshman of the Year.

The semi-finals of the MAC Tournament are set for Friday, Nov. 9 as Toledo will face Northern Illinois at 11:00 am and Ball State will take on Bowling Green at 2:00 pm. The Conference finals will be played on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1:00 pm. All games will be played in Muncie, IN.
