UB Wins Overtime ThrillerBUFFALO, NY- The UB women's basketball team extended their home court winning streak to 12-games with a thrilling 87-81 overtime victory over the Miami RedHawks. The Bulls rode a career game from sophomore Tiffany Bell (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) who poured in a career high 37 points and pulled down 18 rebounds. Tied 73-73 after regulation, Miami (8-13, 4-7) scored the first four points of overtime before Bell put the Bulls (14-7, 7-4) on her shoulders. Bell scored six straight points for UB and eight of the team's first 10 points in the extra period. Her jumper tied the score at 79-79 with 2:44 remaining before Mari McClure (Rochester Hills, MI,/Adams) hit two free throws to give UB the lead for good, 81-79 with 2:23 left. Miami got no closer than two points the rest of the way as Catherine Jacob (Pittsburg, PA/Penn Hills) and McClure hit free throws in the final seconds to secure the win. The Bulls dominated the second half of play. Tied 35-35 at halftime, UB came out charging, using a 15-3 run to lead 50-38 five minutes into the second half. The lead would reach as high as 16 points, 62-46, with 9:18 remaining in regulation before the RedHawks made a comeback. Miami used a 15-2 run of their own to cut the lead back down to three points, 64-61, with 4:32 left. Bell would then hit two jumpers to help subdue the Miami rally. After a three pointer cut the lead to two points, Miami's AuBree Hamilton grabbed an offensive rebound and hit the layup to tie the game at 73-73 to force the overtime period. The Bulls rode the shoulders of Bell all night as she scored nine of the team's final 11 points in regulation and eight of the first ten points in overtime. She scored 17 of the teams last 25 points of the game and hit six of the teams final seven field goals. She recorded a career high 37 points on 12-of-24 shooting from the field and 13-of-19 from the line. In addition, Bell pulled down 18 rebounds, one off her career best, and blocked a career high four shots. Kim Coon (Belding, MI/Belding) added 15 points for the Bulls and Mari McClure had an all-around game with 12 points, six rebounds and six assists. The RedHawks were led by Jennifer Martion with 25 points and AuBree Hamilton with 10 points and 13 rebounds. |
