Buffalo women's basketball finishes inaugural season, 15-12, 8-8

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball team wrapped up the 1998-99 campaign with an 84-48 loss to Mid-American Conference co-champion Kent Friday night in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament at the M.A.C. Center.

The Bulls (No. 7 seed) held tight in Friday night's quarterfinal game shooting 48% in the first half and found themselves down by only nine points, 29-38 at halftime.

The Bulls were plagued by turnovers with 30 in the game and outrebounded by the Golden Flashes, 47-33 as they finished the season at 15-12 overall and 8-8 in their inaugural season in the league.

Senior forward Kim Coon (Belding, MI/Belding) finished her career at Buffalo with a team-high 15 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore center Tiffany Bell (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) - who received All-MAC Honorable Mention honors for her efforts during the regular season - also finished the game in double figures with 11 points.

Junior point guard Dawn Zerman led Kent with 20 points and eight rebounds.

The UB tournament loss was the final game for seniors Catherine Jacob (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills), Megan McCray (Corry, PA/Corry), Samantha Cerny (Leonidas, MI/Leonidas) and Coon.
