BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo women's basketball player Catherine Jacob (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) was one of five athletes named to the 1999 GTE Academic All-District I Women's Basketball Team announced March 1. The 5-6 senior point guard is a Mechanical Engineering major and has maintained a 3.8 cumulative grade point average throughout her career.

Jacob has been a starter for the Bulls since her freshman season and she finished her career as the school's all-time assists leader with 571. She also became the ninth person in UB history to score 1,000 points when she scored 13 in a win over Central Michigan on Jan. 20. Jacob wrapped up her athletic career at UB with 1,072 career points.

Other academic honors Jacob received this season included the 1998 Rutger's Coca Cola Classic Scholar Athlete award and being named a UB Scholar Athlete for maintaining above a 3.0 GPA.

This is the third straight year Jacob has been named to the GTE Academic All-District I team - which is representative of the New York/New England region. Jacob is now eligible for selection to the national GTE Academic All-America Team, to be announced on March 18.
