Tulsa Too Much For Bulls

UB goes 1-1 at UTSA Wells Fargo Classic

SAN ANTONIO, TX - The Tulsa Golden Hurricanes used an 18-0 run during the closing minutes of the first half and into the second half, as the Bulls fell to Tulsa, 64-39, Saturday afternoon in the final day of the UTSA Wells Fargo Classic. The loss drops the Bulls to 5-6 on the season as they enter Mid-American Conference play next weekend.

The Bulls weren't able to contain the hot-shooting Golden Hurricanes who had three players in double figures, including a game-high 21 point performance from Megan Moody.

"We had a tough time defending Megan Moody because of her size," head coach Linda Hill-MacDonald said. "We couldn't find the size matchup with her and we knew that was going to be a problem today. Tulsa really just packed it in on us and took away our baseline drives."

The Bulls were able to limit junior All-America candidate Jillian Robbins to 12 points, but she did pull in a game-high 14 rebounds.

UB was led by Jamie Schiebner (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) who dropped in eight points in the contest. Brooke Meunier (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) added seven points for the Bulls, all of those were in the first half. Sophomore Heather Turner (West Seneca, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) was named to the all-tournament team as she added six points and pulled in a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Bulls shot a season-low 30.2 percent from the field, including just 23.8 percent from behind the arc. UB, which hit 24-of-33 foul shots in the first game of the tournament, hit just 2-of-7 from the charity stripe today.

Tulsa improved to 9-2 on the season, winners of seven of its last eight games. Kara Pongonis also reached double figures for the Golden Hurricanes with 17 points.

The Bulls finished their non-conference portion of their schedule, 5-6, their best non-conference record since 2002-03 when they entered MAC play with a 7-3 record.

UB begins conference play on Saturday, January 7, when it travels to Miami (OH) to face the RedHawks. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
