Bulls Fall At Southeast Missouri St., 67-45

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - The host Southeast Missouri State Redhawks used a 25-7 run over the final 13:05 of the game as the University at Buffalo women’s basketball team fell, 67-45, Saturday afternoon at the Show Me Center. The defeat was the third straight for UB as it evens its record to 6-6 on the season. The Redhawks improved to 8-5.

The Bulls got off to an early start, leading 7-4 on a Jessica Fortman (Ashland, KY/Russell) layup with 18:03 remaining in the first half. From there SEMO took the lead and was up by as much as 11 during the opening half before UB closed out the half on an 8-2 run, trailing by just five at the half.

In the second half, a layup by freshman Bridgette Kendricks (Parsons, KS/Parsons) got UB within four at 42-38 with 13:05 left in regulation. The Redhawks then used a 13-2 run to take a 15-point lead. SEMO hit its foul shots late in the game as it was able to go to the line 13 more time than the Bulls.

Senior Heather Turner (West Seneca, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) led the way with a team-high 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting. The 17 points were a season-high for Turner. Sophomore Ashley Zuber (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) finished with seven points, while junior Jamie Schiebner (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) was the team’s leading rebounder with six. Junior Dortae Freeman (Detroit, MI/Cass Technical) had a game-high five assists off the bench. Sophomore Dayna Smith (Garfield Heights, OH/Trinity) had a career-high four rebounds.

Southeast Missouri State was led by 21 points from Missy Whitney and 11 points from Tarina Nixon. Crysta Glenn and Rachel Blunt each had a team-best six rebounds.

The Bulls will wrap up non-conference play on Wednesday night as they host Bucknell at Alumni Arena. The game against the Bison is set to tip off at 7:00 pm.
