AMHERST, MA - The University at Buffalo women’s basketball team was unable to overcome a slow start and fell to the host Massachusetts Minutewomen, 68-60, Saturday afternoon at the Mullins Center. Freshman Bridgette Kendricks (Parsons, KS/Parsons) had a career-high 18 points and nine rebounds in the game. The Bulls fall to 6-5 on the season.

In the first half, UMass was able to convert on 53.8 percent of its shots, while the Bulls struggled to score, going just 10-of-42 from the floor. Kendricks was the only UB player to score more than one basket in the opening half as UMass led by as much as 13 early in the half and took an 11-point lead into the half.

“That first half was very frustrating because when your offense gives you the opportunities like the ones we had, you have to convert,” said head coach Linda Hill-MacDonald. “I thought we fought hard in the second half, but you have to convert on layups if you want to be successful.”

The Bulls responded much better in the second half as they were able to hit on 16 of their 32 shots, but UB could cut the UMass lead to no fewer than four, which it did on two occasions, the second coming with 36 second remaining in the game from Kendricks. The Bulls were unable to get any closer though as UMass hit its final four free throws. For the game, the Minutewomen shot 15-of-17 from the charity stripe, while UB was able to get to the line just eight times, hitting six of them.

Kendricks led the way with her career highs in points and rebounds. Both of those totals were tops on the team. Freshman Tieara Jones (Youngstown, OH/Rayen) added 10 points and six rebounds, while junior Jamie Schiebner (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) also added 10 points. Schiebner also had four steals in the game, which was the same total as the entire UMass team. Sophomore Ashley Zuber (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) had six points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals.

UMass was led by 25 points from Kate Mills, who added 11 points and seven assists. Pam Rosario had 16 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists for the Minutewomen.

The Bulls will now be off for a week before traveling to Southeast Missouri State of their final non-conference road game of the season. The Bulls and Redhawks will tip off at 12:00 pm central time.
