Turner Named MAC East Player of the WeekBUFFALO, NY - The reigning MAC Freshman of the Year has added another piece of conference hardware to her credentials. Sophomore Heather Turner (West Seneca, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) was named MAC East Player of the Week for the first time in her career on Monday, as was announced by the league office.
Turner scored 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting in the Bulls, 87-59 victory over Northeastern. Turner's perfect day from the floor helped propel a 68.8 shooting performance from UB, tops in the MAC this season. In addition, Turner pulled down nine rebounds and recorded a new career-high with three assists. Turner, who finished her freshman season as the MAC leader in field goal percentage (.571), is continuing with another outstanding season. Turner currently leads the MAC in field goal percentage (.643), is second in offensive rebounds per game (3.57) and sixth in total rebounds (7.7). Turner is the second UB player to win this award on the season. Senior Brooke Meunier (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) received the award during the week of Nov. 29-Dec. 3. This is the first time since the 2002-03 season that the Bulls have won this award multiple times. Turner and the Bulls are back in action Tuesday night as they travel to Rochester, MI to take on Oakland University. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
