Kilpela Earns Eligibility Back

Sophomore forward set to play at East Carolina

BUFFALO, NY University at Buffalo head women's basketball coach Cheryl Dozier has announced that Kim Kilpela (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield), a 6'1" forward who was reinstated to the team in August, has satisfied her academic requirements following the conclusion of the 2001 fall semester.

Kilpela was academically dismissed from the women's basketball team and left the University at Buffalo in July of 2000. She returned to school in the summer of 2001 and has now met all academic requirements to make her eligible for competition, beginning with Buffalo's game at East Carolina on Tuesday, December 18 at 7 pm. Kilpela has been practicing with the team since her return to UB.

"Kim has worked hard since her return over the summer, both in the classroom and on the basketball court," said Dozier. "She's taken advantage of the second chance she's been given, and I'm proud of the way she has handled her situation so far."

Kilpela was a member of the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team in 1999-2000 after she finished second on the team in both scoring (10.3 points per game) and rebounding (7.0 rebounds per game). Kilpela appeared in 28 games for the Bulls as a freshman, and she scored in double figures in 14 of those games. In 1998 while at West Bloomfield High School, she was a Nike All-American and was ranked as the fifth-best senior in the state of Michigan by the Detroit Free Press.
