Bell Earns Third Straight MAC East Women's Basketball Player of the Week Award

Bulls Receives 10 Points in AP Poll

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo women's basketball senior Tiffany Bell (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) was named Mid-American Conference East Player of the Week for the third week in a row, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Bell's honor marks the second time in league history that a player has earned Player of the Week honors for three consecutive weeks, but the first time a player has done so without sharing the honor. During the 1994-95 season, Kent State's Amy Sherry was named Player of the Week for three straight weeks, but the third time she was named Co-Player of the Week. Bell also was named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Bell averaged 22 points and six rebounds in Buffalo's two games last week while shooting 67% from the floor (18-of-27). Bell was a perfect 11-of-11 from the floor against St. Bonaventure on Saturday, December 9, while scoring a game-high 24 points in just 22 minutes of play to lead the Bulls to their seventh straight victory of the season, 72-51. Buffalo's 7-0 start ties the UB record for best undefeated start in school history. The 1969-70 UB squad also began the season 7-0 before dropping its last game of the season for a 7-1 final record.

On Wednesday, December 6, Bell scored a team-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Buffalo to its first-ever win at Youngstown State, 74-54. She tied her career high with four steals and also added a season-high three blocks against the Penguins. Bell was a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line against Youngstown State, and she shot 80% from the free throw line for the week (8-for-10).

Bell has scored in double figures in 20 straight games dating back to last season and in 65 of 85 career games. She leads the Bulls in scoring and ranks second in the MAC with 20.6 points per game. Her team-leading 8.6 rebounds per game is tied for fifth in the conference.

A Buffalo player has received MAC East Player of the Week honors all four weeks into the 2000-01 season. In addition to Bell receiving the honor for the past three weeks, UB senior Mari McClure (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester Adams) received the first MAC East Player of the Week honor of the season on November 20.

Buffalo (7-0) received 10 points in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll, tying them for 33rd in the nation. The Bulls take their undefetaed record on the road for the next three games, facing three BIG EAST opponents. Buffalo plays at St. John's on Sunday, December 17, at Seton Hall on Friday, December 22 and at Boston College on Thursday, December 28.
