UB Women's Basketball Preparing For BIG EAST OpponentBUFFALO, NY Buffalo's women's basketball team will be trying to win its second consecutive home game on Wednesday when the St. John's Red Storm comes to Alumni Arena. UB, 1-3, will looking to rebound from Sunday's dismal road loss to Auburn - who is ranked 24th nationally in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll. St. John's, 3-3, is also coming off a loss - by a 59-44 score to Delaware on Monday.
St. John's is paced on the inside by freshman forward Angie Clark - who is nearly averaging a double-double. She has won BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors in three consecutive weeks. Guards Secrett Stubblefield and Kim MacMillan are first and second on the Red Storm in scoring, averaging 17.8 and 17.2 points per game, respectively. "They are a very athletic and aggressive team," Dozier said. "They are definitely a balanced team with both an inside and an outside presence. They remind me a little bit of our team because of the fact that they are playing only six or seven kids." One major difference between the two teams can be found in their respective scoring averages - UB is scoring just 55.5 points per game, while the Red Storm is averaging 73.7 points per contest.
In order to win Wednesday night's game, Dozier feels the Bulls will need to limit their turnovers and control the boards. Buffalo had an astounding total of 30 turnovers in its loss to Auburn. UB has beaten St. John's in each of the schools' four meetings - including Bulls' victories in each of the last three seasons. Dozier believes that for the most part though, that statistic is irrelevant. "They are a much, much better team this year than they have been in the three previous
years that we have played them," said Dozier. |
