St. John's Next for Bulls

The Bulls will host St. John's this Wednesday (12/1) in non-conference action in Alumni Arena. St. John's enters Wednesday's game with a 2-1 overall record. Most recently, the Red Storm knocked off Stony Brook, 54-39.

This is the second meeting between the two schools. Buffalo leads the series 1-0 after defeating the Red Storm, 91-48 during the 1995-96 season.

Bulls Win Season Opener in Thriller

The UB women's basketball team moved to 2-1 on the season winning their home opener 59-57 over visiting Rhode Island. Tiffany Bell (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) scored the game winning bucket with 1.7 seconds left for the victory, improving the Bulls record to 2-1 on the season.

Bell led all scorers with 21 points and she also collected five rebounds. Mari McClure (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester Adams) added eight points for the Bulls and Sonia Ortega (Chiahuahua, Mexico) had seven assists.

Bell Gets 29 points as Bulls Crush Panthers

Junior center Tiffany Bell poured in 29 points, including 21 in the second half as the University at Buffalo women's basketball team overcame a 25-24 first half deficit to pick up their first win of the season over Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 78-58.

Bell was a huge factor in the second half for the Bulls as 21 of her 29 points came during that stanza. Bell went 8-of-15 from the field and 13-of-17 from the line for the game. She also had seven rebounds in the game.

Sonia Ortega turned in another outstanding performance for the Bulls with 11 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Sophomore guard Mari McClure added 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field in the game while junior guard Nisha Wilson (Toronto, Ontario/Hampton University) contributed 10 points and five steals in the win.

Bell off to Impressive Start

Tiffany Bell has lead the Bulls in scoring in all three games this season. Bell is averaging 24.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this season. Bell recorded a season-high 29 points in a win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Ortega Making Most of Senior Season

Sonia Ortega, the Bulls only senior this season, is making great strides so far in her final season. Ortega is second on the team in scoring with an 9.3 average and is tied for first in rebounding with Bell at 6.7. The senior also leads the team in assists at 5.6 per game this season.

Eight is Enough

The Bulls add eight new faces to their roster for the 1998-99 season. Freshmen Kim Kilpela (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield), Mia Thurman (Detroit, MI) and Rachel Martin (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) should provide much needed depth for the Bulls deep inside as the season progresses.

The Bulls also add three guards to the newcomer list in junior college transfer Nisha Wilson and freshmen Colleen Tabor (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa), Rosyln Dominico (Buffalo, NY/Hutch-Tech) and Debbie Sellan (Corfu, NY/Pembroke).

Wilson has already shown signs of brilliance in just three games for the Bulls. After sitting out the 1998-99 season due to NCAA transfer rules, Wilson is averaging 7.3 points and 3.6 steals off the bench for the Bulls.
