Women’s Basketball Announces 2007-08 Award Winners
Bennett was named the team’s most valuable player for the first time in her four-year career as she was named to the All-MAC Second Team following the season. Bennett averaged 13.0 points per game and was the team’s leading three-point shooter at 38 percent. Bennett was the only player on the Bulls to start all 30 games for UB and her 2.53 three pointers per game ranked fourth in the conference.
Turner was named the team’s defensive player of the year as she led the team in rebounding for the fourth straight season. Turner averaged 12.0 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per contest as she played and started in 29 games for the Bulls. For the fourth straight season Turner led the conference in field goal percentage and she was an honorable mention selection to the All-MAC Team. For her final two seasons, Turner was a member of the All-MAC East Preseason Team.
Homolová was given the team’s academic award for her work in the classroom. Homolová has an overall grade point average of 3.694 and just graduated with a degree in management. She has been honored as a UB Scholar Athlete during numerous semesters and at this year’s academic awards banquet, Homolová was recognized as a Taurus Aureus award winner. On the court, Homolová averaged 2.6 points per game and was second on the team with 19 blocked shots.
Schiebner was given the team’s hustle award for her ability to give it her all on every play. Schiebner was second on the team in scoring with 8.5 points per game and her 6.9 rebounds per contest were second on the team. Schiebner was tied for second on the team with 38 steals this season and she was also the team’s leading free throw shooter at 80.6 percent. Fortman picked up the award as the team’s most improved player as the freshman had an outstanding first season with the Bulls. Fortman averaged 7.9 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per contest while also leading the team with 30 blocked shots. She finished fifth in the conference in blocked shots. Fortman also finished second on the team in field goal percentage.
The Bulls finished the 2007-08 season with a 15-15 record and an 8-8 mark in the Mid-American Conference. Their win total was the most since the 2002-03 season. |
