Jennings Leaves UB Women's Basketball Team

BUFFALO, NY - Sophomore point guard Virginia Jennings (Nashville, MI/Hastings) has chosen to leave the University at Buffalo women's basketball team, head coach Cheryl Dozier announced today. Jennings asked for, and was granted, a release by the University, allowing her to transfer to another institution to continue her athletic and academic career.

"It's always a difficult situation whenever a player leaves, but it's something that every program goes through," said Dozier. "We respect the decision that Virginia has made and we wish her luck wherever she ends up. She feels as though this is the best decision for her and we respect that and will move forward from here. We still have some players to sign for next year and we're beginning off-season workouts, so we have a lot to focus on to get ready for the 2002-03 season."

Jennings started 26 of Buffalo's 28 games last year and averaged 6.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Her 121 assists rank eighth all-time on UB's single-season assists list. Jennings ends her two-year career at UB with 176 assists (3.3 per game), 294 points (5.5 per game) and 158 rebounds (3.0 per game) in 53 games.
