Bell Earns District All-American StatusBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo junior center Tiffany Bell (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) became the first player in UB women's basketball history to earn a spot on the WBCA Kodak All-American team by making the District 4 team, announced on Friday. Bell is one of only 48 finalists for the most prestigious All-American team in women's basketball by being one of six players named in District 4. Bell, who became just the second UB player in women's basketball history to go over 1,000 points as a junior, was one of three underclassmen who made the District 4 team, along with Akron's Cheryl Bowles and Tennessee Tech's Janet Holt. Bell led the Mid-American Conference in scoring at 19.0 points per game and also ranked 10th in the conference in rebounding at 7.9 per game. The junior finished in the top ten in six different categories in the final MAC statistics and her 493 points on the season is the second-most in school history and came despite missing three games with a severe ankle sprain. Entering her senior season, Bell already ranks fifth all-time with 1,115 points. She had seven double-doubles this season and now has a UB record 17 in her career. She had a season-high 33 points against Bowling Green in the regular season finale, earned a spot on the Florida Atlantic All-Tournament team and also earned MAC Player of the Week honors in December. The berth on the District 4 team puts Bell on the final WBCA/Kodak ballot for the ten All-Americans to be selected during the women's Final Four in Philadelphia. "I couldn't be happier for Tiffany as this is a great accomplishment for her and our
program," said head coach Cheryl Dozier. "She really came into her own this season as a leader of this team
and put up tremendous numbers despite playing injured the second half of the season. Tiffany's best
basketball is ahead of her and this type of honor should serve to motivate her for next season." |
