Bulls Comeback Falls Short Against Toledo, 53-50
The Bulls had a tough time getting their offense going in the first half as they managed to shoot just 19.4 percent in the half. Toledo shot 40.7 percent from the field in the first half, including 45.5 percent from three as it took a 27-17 lead into the half. The Bulls were able to stay in the game thanks to solid free throw shooting.
In the second half Toledo got its lead up to 13 with 12:48 left in the half, but the Bulls stagged a comeback. The Bulls scored four quick points to cut the lead to nine, but Toledo eventually regained a 10-point lead at 44-34 with 8:29 left in the game. UB then went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to four as junior Jamie Schiebner (Sagniaw, MI/Heritage) and seniors Stephanie Bennett (Springfield, OH/Kenton Ridge) and Heather Turner (West Seneca, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) all converted on buckets. The Bulls cut the lead to two on two separate occasions before UB finally tied it up on a jumper from Barbora Homolova (Ceska Lipa, Czech Republic/Strakonice) with 1:47 left in the game. Toledo then converted on their seventh three pointer of the game with 1:17 left. Freshman Jessica Fortman (Ashland, KY/Russell) hit a jumper to pull UB within one, but the Bulls were unable to convert on another basket. Toledo’s Allie Clifton hit two free throws with 12 seconds left for the final total. Turner and Schiebner both recorded double-doubles in the game as Turner had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Schiebner finished with 10 points and 12 boards. Bennett had 10 points and a team-high four assists. Bennett also had five rebounds and five steals in the game. UB was unable to convert on a three in the game, snapping a streak of 120 straight games with a three-pointer.
Toledo was led by 16 points from Ta’Yani Clark, who also have seven rebounds. Clifton had 10 points off the bench. “I am disappointed with the loss, but we lost that game in the first half,” said head coach Linda Hill-MacDonald. “I thought we played pretty well defensively and we played much better in the second half, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough.” The Bulls finished the 2007-08 season with a 15-15 record and an 8-8 mark in MAC play. Both those totals are the most since the 2002-03 season. |
