BUFFALO, NY – For the first time since the 2000-01 season, the University at Buffalo women’s basketball team placed multiple players on the All-MAC team. Senior Stephanie Bennett (Springfield, OH/Kenton Ridge) was named to the All-MAC Second Team, while senior Heather Turner (West Seneca, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) was named an honorable mention selection for the second straight year.

Bennett, who becomes UB’s first second-team All-MAC selection since Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe in 2002-03, is the team’s leading scorer at 13.1 points per game. Bennett has been one of the top three-point shooters in the MAC and is currently ranked 20th in the country in three pointers per game. Bennett’s scoring has steadily increased during her four years at UB and she recently became the 17th player in school history to record 1,000 career points. Bennett is currently ninth in school history in scoring, fourth in assists and second in three pointers. Bennett is also the only player in school history to have more than 1,000 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists. This is the first time she has been honored by the Mid-American Conference.

With her honorable mention selection, Turner has now been honored by the MAC in each of her four years. Turner was also a two-time member of the preseason All-MAC team. Turner is averaging 11.9 points per game and her 7.8 rebounds per contest are third in the conference. Turner is coming off a 17-point, 17-rebound performance on senior day against Kent State. In addition to her two honorable mention honors, Turner has also made the All-MAC Third Team and in 2004-05, Turner was named the MAC’s Freshman Of The Year. Turner is third In school history in scoring and she is the first player in school history to have 1,300 career points and more than 800 career rebounds.

Bennett and Turner helped lead the Bulls to a 15-14 record and an 8-8 record in the MAC during the regular season. Both win totals are the most for UB since the 2002-03 season.

UB begins the 2008 Mid-American Conference Tournament on Monday, March 10 at Noon. For the third straight season the Bulls will face the Toledo Rockets. The winner of that game will move on to play Ball State in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.
