Two Bulls Honored With Postseason AwardsBUFFALO, NY - While the season may be over for the University at Buffalo women's basketball team, it received good news as the 2006 All-MAC and All-Freshmen teams were announced Monday morning by the league office. 2004-05 MAC Freshmen of the Year Heather Turner (West Seneca, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) was named to the Third Team All-MAC, while Jamie Schiebner (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) was named to the All-Freshman team.
Turner, who led the Bulls in scoring and rebounding, finished first in the conference in field goal percentage and second in rebounding, including first in offensive rebounds. The sophomore forward also finished in the top 10 in the MAC in scoring. Turner finished the season eclipsing the 20-point mark seven times and finished second in the MAC with nine double-doubles. Turner is joined on the third team with Jessie Crooks of Akron, Julie DeMuth of Ball State, Carin Horne of Bowling Green and Miami's Cindi Merrill. Schiebner was in the midst of an outstanding freshmen season before it ended prematurely due to a head injury. Prior to the injury, Schiebner was second on the Bulls in rebounding and fourth in scoring. Schiebner recorded a career-high 17 rebounds earlier this season in a triple-overtime loss at Northern Illinois. She finished second on the team with four double-doubles, including 13 points and 13 boards against Texas-San Antonio.
Schiebner is joined by fellow freshmen Niki McCoy from Akron, Jenna Schone from Miami, Ohio's Rachel Frederick and Diana Reindl from Toledo. It is now two straight seasons for the Bulls where they have placed someone on the All-Freshman team as Turner was on it following the conclusion of last season. UB finished the season with a 10-18 record, a six win improvement from 2004-05. The Bulls return all but one player next season. |
