KENT, OH – The University at Buffalo women’s basketball team was unable to overcome a slow first half as the Bulls fell to Kent State, 72-53, Wednesday evening at the M.A.C Center. The Bulls outscored Kent in the second half, thanks to the eighth double-double of the season by Kourtney Brown.

The Bulls were up by one early on in the first half, but UB went scoreless for nearly ten minutes as the Golden Flashes went on a 16-0 run. The Bulls played most of the first half without Brown and Jessica Fortman as both players got into early foul trouble. The Golden Flashes ended up taking a 34-14 lead into the half.

The Bulls came out in the second half and outscored Kent State, 39-38, mostly due to the play of Brown who had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the second half. The Bulls cut the lead to as little as 14 with 13:15 left in the second half on a three from Rachelle Matthys. The Golden Flashes responded and took their largest lead of the game at 23 with 10:26 left in the game.

UB was led by 19 points and 13 rebounds from Brown in just 25 minutes of action. Senior Jamie Schiebner also finished in double figures with 12 points. The Bulls hit six threes, including a career-best two from freshman Beth Christensen. Christensen finished with six points and seven rebounds in 14 minutes of action. Fortman added eight points and seven rebounds.
