Bulls Fall At Bowling Green, 74-47

Stephanie Bennett leads the way for UB with 18 points

BOWLING GREEN, OH - The University at Buffalo women’s basketball team had their two-game winning streak broken on Saturday afternoon as the Bulls fell to Bowling Green, 74-47, at Anderson Arena. The Falcons used a 21-2 run midway through the opening half and never trailed as the Bulls fell to 14-14 on the year and 7-8 in the MAC.

After the Falcons scored the first four points of the game, UB responded by scoring the next four on back-to-back baskets from Heather Turner (West Seneca, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) and Jamie Schiebner (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) to tie the game up. However, from their the Falcons used their big run and with 8:36 left in the half was up 25-6. UB responded with an 11-2 run and trailed by just 10 after a jumper from Jessica Fortman (Ashland, KY/Russell). However, Bowling Green was able to end the half on a 13-1 run and take a 40-18 lead into halftime.

In the second half, a Stephanie Bennett (Springfield, OH/Kenton Ridge) three pulled the Bulls within 15 with 15:47 left in the half, but the Falcons again responded by scoring the next 10 points to get their lead up to 25. The Bulls continued to fight, but they were unable to get the deficit to less than 20 for the rest of the game.

UB was led by 18 point from Bennett, with 15 of those coming in the second half. Turner had 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds, while Schiebner added seven boards. Junior Dortae Freeman (Detroit, MI/Cass Technical), who made her first start of the season, had seven points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in the game.

The Falcons were led by 24 points from Kate Achter and 12 points from Lauren Prochaska. Tara Breske added 11 points for BGSU and six rebounds. Achter also had a game-high seven assists.

The Bulls will wrap up the regular season this Wednesday as they host Kent State University at Alumni Arena. Tip off with the Golden Flashes is set for 7:00 pm. Prior to the game, the Bulls will honor their five-member senior class.
