Bulls Begin Final Homestand Against Akron

Bulls look to clinch home game in conference tournament

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball team will battle the Akron Zips on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena. Overall the Bulls will be playing for their tenth victory of the season while the Zips will be looking to win their sixth. This will be the 21st all-time meeting between the schools. UB leads the series with a 13-7 edge, including three out of the last four played at Alumni Arena.

Prior to tip off the Bulls will be celebrating senior day as they recognize the lone UB senior on the squad, Brooke Meunier (Saginaw, MI/Heritage). However, once the contest begins the Bulls will turn their attention to securing a home playoff game in the 2006 Kraft MAC Tournament.

UB (9-16, 4-12 MAC) is coming off a hard fought road victory against MAC opponent Ohio on Tuesday, by a score of 84-77. The Bulls had a 52 point second half, which was their highest point output on the season for a half. Meunier led the Bulls with 23 points and seven assists, while sophomore forward Heather Turner (West Seneca, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) added 20 points in the contest. Sophomore guard Stephanie Bennett (Springfield, OH/Kenton Ridge) and sophomore forward Flynn Pyykkonen (Clarkston, MI/Birmingham Marian) each scored 13 points in the contest. Turner continues to lead the MAC in field-goal percentage at 61.3 percent. UB head coach Linda Hill-MacDonald has a 241-272 career record and has taken two Division I programs to the NCAA Tournament and has been a head coach in the WNBA.

Akron (5-20, 2-12 MAC) is coming off a 56-51 road victory versus MAC opponent Miami on Tuesday. Leading the attack for the Zips is junior forward Jessie Crooks, freshman guard Niki McCoy and senior guard Courtney Stewart, who are averaging 13.8, 10.9 and 10 points per game, respectively. Akron is coached by Kelly Kennedy who is in her 4th season as head coach and has a 17-92 career record as a collegiate coach.
