Bulls Fall at KentKENT, OH- The Bulls played well but dropped their fourth consecutive game with a 71-58 loss at Kent on Wednesday. UB (17-9, 7-8 MAC) used 45.5 percent shooting (10-22) to come within two, 30-28, at the half and held a two-point lead (52-50) on a pair of Tiffany Bell (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) free throws with 7:02 left to cap a 7-0 Bulls run. Kent (21-5, 13-1) pulled away from there however going on a 21-6 run to end the contest, tying the Mid-American Conference record with their 31st consecutive homecourt victory. Conference Player of the Year candidates Tiffany Bell and Dawn Zerman matched each other throughout the contest. Bell scored 20 points to lead the Bulls and grabbed six rebounds while Zerman scored 19 and added four steals for the Golden Flashes. Julie Studer led Kent with 20 point and eight rebounds in just 15 minutes off the bench. The Bulls got 12 points each from Mari McClure (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester Adams) and Kim Kilpela (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield). Kilpela led all rebounders with nine boards, eight defensive. Sonia Ortega (Chihuahua, Mexico/Cobach) dished out nine assists in the contest and became UB's single-season leader with 171. A total of 47 fouls were whistled in the contest (23 on the Bulls) which resulted in fifty free
throw attempts. Kipela and Ortega fouled out for the Bulls while McClure and Bell finished with four
apiece. No Kent players fouled out but three collected four each. |
