UB Women's Basketball Senior Now Eligible for National Recognition

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo women's basketball senior Mari McClure (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester Adams) has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District I Women's Basketball Team as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). McClure was one of five players named to the first team, and she now advances to the national Academic All-America ballot. The national Verizon Academic All-America Women's Basketball Team will be announced on March 15.

Mari McClure
McClure, a three-year starter and a two-time team captain, is currently averaging 15.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game for the Bulls, helping them compile an 18-7 overall record (9-5 in the Mid-American Conference). McClure began her senior season by scoring a career-high 35 points in Buffalo's 95-89 upset win over No. 22/25 North Carolina in the season-opener on November 17, earning her MAC East Player of the Week and MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honors. On January 31, she became just the 12th UB women's basketball player of all-time to surpass the 1,000-career point plateau when she recorded 14 points against Northern Illinois. McClure has scored 385 points in 25 games so far this season after scoring 265 points in 29 games all of last season. She averages a team-high 35.8 minutes per game despite playing with a chronic arthritic condition in both of her knees.

McClure currently stands in ninth place all-time in scoring at UB with 1,089 career points. In the most recent NCAA statistics report, released on Tuesday, February 20, McClure ranked 20th in the nation with a free throw percentage of .874. She is a perfect 25-for-25 from the foul line in her last six games, and her .839 career free throw percentage (271-for-327) is presently the best in UB women's basketball history. McClure has scored in double figures in 21 of Buffalo's 25 games this season, and she has scored 20 or more points on three different occasions this year.

McClure holds a 3.592 grade point average while majoring in Psychology and Legal Studies. She is a UB Scholar Athlete and has been a member of the MAC Academic Honor Roll.
