BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball roster has received some much-needed depth with the addition of two players - forwards Lauren Burd (York, PA/Central York) and Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion). Both players, who were members of UB's volleyball team in the fall, will begin practicing with the team today and be in uniform for the remainder of the season, beginning with Saturday's game against Akron.

Burd, a sophomore, was originally recruited to play basketball at UB, and she appeared in 20 games and averaged 1.1 points and 1.5 rebounds in her freshman season in 2002-03 before deciding to switch to volleyball. She was a right side/middle hitter on the Bulls' volleyball team this past fall. Bouie, meanwhile, recently completed a successful career as a four-year middle hitter on the Bulls' volleyball team. The senior was also a member of the Bulls' women's basketball team as a sophomore in 2001-02, grabbing five rebounds in six games.

"We're excited to have both of these student-athletes join our squad to help out with the depth issues we've been facing," said head coach Cheryl Dozier. "Both Lauren and Alexis are great kids who are very competitive and hard-working. Everyone involved with our program is excited that they'll be with us for the remainder of the season."

The addition of Burd and Bouie will bring the Bulls' active roster up to nine players for Saturday's game against Akron. The Bulls will still be without senior Jessica Kochendorfer (Allen, MI/Quincy) who is out with a concussion. Saturday's game is a doubleheader with the UB men's team. The women's game will tip off at 1 pm, followed by the men's game against Central Michigan.
