UB To Face Kent State At Alumni ArenaBUFFALO, NY - Alumni Arena has been a friendly place to the University at Buffalo women's basketball team this season. The Bulls return there at 7 pm on Wednesday to host the Kent State Golden Flashes, in an attempt to extend their home winning streak to three games. As part of the National Girls and Women in Sports Day festivities, United States Olympic Gold Medalist Dominique Dawes will be on hand for the ceremonial pregame tip off. In the actual game itself, UB (5-14, 3-6 Mid-American Conference) will be without its leading scorer, senior forward Jessica Kochendorfer (Allen, MI/Quincy). In Buffalo's 85-65 loss at Ohio on Saturday, Kochendorfer suffered a concussion, which will keep her sidelined on Wednesday night. The Bulls will be down to seven players, including sophomore guard Brooke Meunier (Saginaw, MI/Heritage), who will be playing with an injured finger.
Buffalo was outrebounded, 44-29, in that contest by the Bobcats, allowing Ohio to attempt 27 more shots. The boards could be an area of concern once again on Wednesday for UB, as Kent State averages over three more rebounds per game than do the Bulls (37.4 boards per contest as compared to UB's 34.3). The Golden Flashes (12-8, 5-4 MAC) have won three of their last four - most recently defeating Central Michigan by a 65-45 score on Saturday. Sophomore forward Lindsay Shearer's 13.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game both rank in the top 10 of the MAC, as do junior center Andrea Csaszar's 13.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest. Kent State's sophomore point guard, Malika Willoughby, leads the MAC with 6.5 assists per game. Buffalo has failed to beat the Golden Flashes in 11 all-time meetings - all of which have
occurred in the last five seasons. All four meetings at Alumni Arena though, have been decided by
single digits. Kent State's average margin of victory in those games held in Buffalo is 6.0 points. |
