UB Athletics To Think Pink On Feb. 9
“Think Pink” t-shirts are being sold for $5 and can be picked up at any UB athletic event, including the Feb. 9 game. Shirts can also be bought at Campus Tee’s in the UB Student Union or by contacting ubfans@yahoo.com. People wishing to make donations can also do so at any of the above locations. True Blue will be making a donation to the Breast Cancer Network of Western New York during halftime of the game. UB Athletics will also recognize Althea Luehersen, who is the executive director of the UB Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership. Luehersen has been a dedicated volunteer at the Susan G. Komen WNY affiliate and currently serves on the board of directors. The Bulls will also be recognizing all UB women’s basketball alumni that will be at the game during halftime. It will also be UB’s “Pack The House” game as the Bulls are hoping to break the single-game attendance record for a Buffalo women’s basketball game and tickets will be buy one, get one free. The UB Women’s Basketball team will be wearing pink headbands and pink wristbands for this event. Fans are encouraged to also wear pink to show their support, including the True Blue t-shirt that they can buy prior to the event. The first 400 fans to the game will receive a free box of pink popcorn. Families are encouraged to attend as there will also be inflatables, airbrush tattoos and face painting for the kids. There will also be pregame and halftime entertainment from local entertainer In-Jest. This event has also been designated as UB’s Coaches vs. Cancer game. Head coach Linda Hill-MacDonald and her staff will not only be wearing pink, but will also be wearing sneakers at the game to raise awareness for cancer research. “Our participation in this event is important,” said Hill-MacDonald. “No matter who you are, cancer has probably touched your life in one way or another. My staff and I are honored to take part in this worthwhile cause and are looking forward to the support of our student body and our community in helping find a cure for this devastating disease.” The Bulls enter the game with an 11-10 record and a 4-4 mark in Mid-American Conference play after Sunday’s 73-62 victory at Ball State. Toledo enters the game with a 10-10 record and a 3-5 mark in the MAC after falling to Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon.
