Bulls Fall To Eastern Michigan

Heather Turner leads UB with 14 points

BUFFALO, NY - The MAC West leading Eastern Michigan Eagles used a 16-3 run in the middle of the second half to defeat the University at Buffalo women's basketball team, 56-41, Saturday night in front of 1,471 people at Alumni Arena. The Bulls shot a season-low 27.1 percent from the field and fell to 7-11 on the season and 2-5 in conference play.

The Eagles, who have now won nine in a row, scored their second fewest points all season, but they outscored the host Bulls 22-11 over the final 12 minutes to leave with the victory.

Sophomore Heather Turner (West Seneca, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) led the Bulls with 14 points, and has now scored double-digit figures during 15 of UB's 18 games. Turner went 6-of-10 from the field and also collected four rebounds, three of those on the offensive end.

The Bulls struggled from the floor all evening as they shot just 27 percent, including eight percent from behind the arc, a 1-of-13 performance.

"I was really pleased with our defensive effort," said head coach Linda Hill-MacDonald. "The team followed the game plan defensively. On the offensive end I was very disappointed. We have a player in Heather Turner who shoots 60 percent from the field and she only gets 10 shots. Overall we just didn't shoot the ball very well."

UB forced Eastern Michigan into 19 turnovers, but on the offensive end the Bulls could only record 12 points off of them.

Freshman Jamie Schiebner (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) and sophomore Stephanie Bennett (Springfield, OH/Kenton Ridge) led the Bulls in rebounding as they each pulled in six boards. Overall UB was outrebounded, 37-29.

The Eagles (13-5, 7-0 MAC) were led by three players in double figures. Sarah VanMetre recorded a team-high 14 points while Ryan Coleman and Nikki Knapp added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Bulls will be back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Northern Illinois for a match up with the Huskies. Tip off is set for 8:05 p.m. ET.
