Kilpela Gets 18 in Win Over Akron

Bulls Improve to 14-4, 4-3 with 70-58 Conference Victory

BUFFALO, NY - Freshman forward Kim Kilpela (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) had a team-high 18 points as the University at Buffalo women's basketball team improved to 14-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play with a win at East Divisional opponent Akron (5-12, 1-5), 70-58 on Saturday (1/22).

The Bulls, who had just seven players see action, outscored the Zips by six points in each stanza, 36-30 in the first half and 34-28 in the second half. Buffalo also shot 43.6% (24-of-55) from the field and forced the Zips into 21 turnovers, compared to just 14 of their own.

Along with Kilpela's performance, Buffalo had three additional players score in double figure scoring. Senior guard Sonia Ortega (Chihuahua, Mexico/Cobach) had 17 points and a career-high 13 assists while junior center Tiffany Bell (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) and freshman guard Colleen Tabor (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) contributed 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The Bulls return to action on Thursday (1/27) at Marshall. Tipoff is set for 7:00pm.
